In common with most coffee shops on SF, in Coffee to the People, there are a lot of people making use of the free WiFi using exclusively Apple laptops. The WiFi was unprotected, probably in line with the Haight Ashbury philosophy of the 1960s. The DK Eyewitness Travel book San Francisco & Northern California says:
[The Haight Ashbury] developed into a residential area, but in the 1930s and ’60s changed dramatically from middle-class suburbs to centre of the ‘Flower Power’ world, with a free clinic to treat hippies. It is now one of the liveliest and most unconventional places in San Francisco, with an eclectic mix of people, excellent book and record stores and good cafés.
